On June 26, 2010, Somaliland held its second presidential election.
This was a historic milestone in the country’s democratization process, marking a peaceful transfer of power from the incumbent president to the opposition leader — a rare and commendable achievement in the region.

A total of 538,246 votes were cast in the election.
